Reminds me of a debate under the last papacy in which BXVI was accused of disrespecting his opponents because he assumed that Catholicism was true. His response was to distinguish the respect owed people from the respect owed the truth. Egalitarianism doesn’t entail equal respect for beliefs.

Now, there's much to commend about that, and its certainly a quality many (and not just on the left) would like to see more of in politics. But seeing complex issues in black and white terms often entails, and certainly encourages, a disengagement from the perspectives those one opposes.
