The before includes all rail. The after is only Amtrak. There are other non-Amtrak operators that are not shown on the map. For example SMART and Caltrain in CA and Brightline in FL.

I can't seem to think of any other rail than amtrak, which says a lot about how much rail has fallen out of widespread use in public transit anyways.

For long-range travel, rail is still (sadly) more expensive, and takes a LOT longer than most people can stomach.
