I'm talking more about the broader rail network. There are no doubt isolated rails (like seattle) that can take you around some towns, but it's nothing like what you see in europe.
For long-range travel, rail is still (sadly) more expensive, and takes a LOT longer than most people can stomach.
I’m from Europe. Rail travel there is not a viable option for most people for journeys over 200 miles or so. It tends to be very expensive unless you buy your ticket months in advance and commit to a specific train or it’s on a rare route with competition like Barcelona to Madrid. 1/2
Sleeper services are available on some longer routes but again they can be very expensive, you have to share with strangers and you arrive at your destination at 7.00am and can’t check into a hotel until 3.00pm.
