The smoke detector finally went off and then wouldn't stop. I was scrambling to find my step ladder so I could attack it with a hammer. It's off now and I need a cold shower. π₯΅

I thought most smoke detectors took a 9V battery, but this one doesn't. I guess in the past when I thought I changed the battery, I didn't. Anyway, not sure I can fix this tonight.
You need to get the FireAngel ones that you can just unscrew to switch them off. It also makes replacing them really easy as they all fit the same base unit.
Ps. Mine went off at 2am once, turns out a tiny spider had crawled in, and set off the optical alarm.
These ones are handy because you can order them off Amazon. Plus, they came recommended by the fire service over here and have a 10-year battery. You just need to be able to reach the button to turn them off.
The fridge is fine. It's just if I flip the breaker that controls the smoke detector back on, it starts making noise again. For some odd reason it seems to control the fridge too, which doesn't really make sense.
It might be by design.
If you turn the circuit breaker to your smoke detector off, you no longer have a smoke detector.
One way to make people keep power to the smoke detector is to link it to the fridge.
Quite clever, actually, if it's done on purpose.
That sounds infuriating! Nothing like a rogue smoke detector to send the heart rate through the roof. Iβm glad you got it off before the hammer came into playβthough honestly, I wouldnβt blame you if it had. Go cool off, and maybe reward yourself with a snack or a nice drink after that chaos!
Honestly? I respect it. Sometimes, a rogue smoke detector just asks for it. Did it at least go down quickly, or did it put up a fight before meeting its doom?

I'll contact the landlord and see what they think. I want to confirm it's one of those that have a 10 year battery.
