A decade after Obergefell v. Hodges, right-wing media figures are once again targeting same-sex marriage, laying ideological groundwork for a potential reversal of the landmark decision. 🧵

If you’ve been paying attention to the anti-trans legislation (mostly state), and EOs, you should have noticed that they are reversing previously legal states, in barrage of (unconstitutional IMO) ex post facto laws. Establishing a precedent here will allow them to annul existing marriages.
thiel has been run through his infernal genetic resequencing machine, THE THIELMASTER, so many times that he's no longer human and almost unidentifiable as one. even grindr twinks looking for a free meal and a bag of dope aren't biting. only others of this new species are. even thiel has standards
Caitlyn Jenner was literally at Trump’s house for the election results and that’s had 0 impact on the hateful trans EOs coming out of the WH. Thiel is just the deep pockets that made JD Vance. No republicans are concerned about Thiel. The dominionists only see the tech elite as a tool.
It just happens that Yarvin and Theil have mutual end goals to the religious right right now. It’s the only reason they’re in the mix at all. Project 2025 has been cooking since Newt Gingrich was running the show. The tech guys are just the wallets here.
Following a sustained campaign against transgender rights, conservative commentators are now refocusing on marriage equality—signaling a broader effort to revisit and roll back LGBTQ+ legal protections.
Like. this was 9bvious from the get-go, right? They went after trans because it was the new "icky" thing that made a bunch of normies uncomfortable. But they had never given up their original hatred.
Hosts at The Daily Wire have led the charge. Matt Walsh has called for Obergefell to be overturned. Ben Shapiro has argued against the normalization of same-sex marriage. Jordan Peterson has labeled it “celebrating perversity.”
The shift isn’t limited to rhetoric. Justice Clarence Thomas has already urged the Court to reconsider Obergefell. At the state level, Republican lawmakers are advancing bills asserting state control over marriage law.
The strategy mirrors the one used to overturn Roe v. Wade:
• Undermine the precedent
• Use media to shift public opinion
• Introduce state-level challenges
• Wait for a favorable Supreme Court
The implication is clear: marriage equality is no longer politically untouchable. And dismissing these signals as fringe rhetoric may lead to the same mistake many made with Roe.
Last fall Colorado voters passed an initiative to repeal amendment 43 to Colorado's constitution which had banned gay marriage. This week the Colorado legislature took that the next step to remove the statute created by amendment 43.
This is ridiculous. Tim Walz was right-people need to mind their own business. It is really no one’s business who someone loves and wants to marry. Seriously it would seem there are much larger issues in our country that impact Americans. They need to address those and leave happy people alone.
fixing actual issues is hard, hurting groups that they and their voter base hates is comparatively easy and makes them feel like they’re winning so they can ignore the lack of actual fixes
You are so right. I resent the fact they get paid very well but some actually do very little. They’re frauds. Neither you nor I would ever be able to get away with it in our jobs. And the fact that they pander to hate and bigotry is really appalling.
Instead of just playing defense, let's fight back.... let's sue the state saying that divorce is against the word of God and that if you got married, you must forever remain married. Divorce is now illegal. We won't get anywhere with it... but it will be fun to watch their heads explode in anger.
What irritates me the most is that I STILL have to be united with those who threw me under a bus, because division is what the theocrat fascists want. And they are right, divided we are easier to overwhelm.
I feel like as members of the LGBTQ crowd (I don't get a letter- the pans are just lumped in with the 'B') but I feel like it us incumbent upon us to slap the shit out of trans exclusionary queer folks.
They forget so fucking quickly that it was the trans folks and the drag queens who carried
...
We don't need to stand in solidarity with bigots - they need to leave our community.
We are all valid, or none of us are. Full stop.
Keep being awesome, babe - and get to Canada if you can. We're constantly pushing our leadership to extend asylum (for real.) Until then, you can be my cousin 💜
They were raised since birth to always be terrified that they aren't good enough and to always compare themselves to others. From that the stomping down was a natural evolution.
Kennedy, who wrote the decision, left the SCOTUS early so Trump could appoint Gorsuch.
Trump would be gleeful to overturn this decision. The “transaction” made with Kennedy will have been long forgotten.
It may be more difficult than they imagine. While most people don’t know a trans person or have one in their lives, nearly all of us know and love gay and lesbian couples. I’m willing to fight for their right to be married.
Because of the legal mess it would create to do takesie-backsies? Because he was one of the "no" votes on Obergefell. And it was 5-4 with Ginsberg and Kennedy on the Court. You'd need more than Roberts to side with the liberal wing.

When they go low, we curbstomp them.

Oh! Right! Kermit the Fraud!
What made American christians so far from smart?
Oh, right, trans people did.
I mean we literally warned you that giving the theocrat fascists an inch would only speed them along to the mile they will never compromise on.
But nope. They had to toss the trans folks under the bus anyway.
We. Were. Never. Safe.
They forget so fucking quickly that it was the trans folks and the drag queens who carried

It was the trans folks and drag queens who were the biggest drivers of change, and they paid our way in their blood.
So, no, nobody gets to throw you under the bus, or they're gonna have a pissed off queer auntie and her pissed off history lesson to deal with.
We are all valid, or none of us are. Full stop.

And they are all buffoons.
They too are buffoons.
It's buffoons, all the way down.
The torch must be passed anew, carried and defended from each new spawn of bigotry.
Over their dead bodies.
The finale is really something.
Trump would be gleeful to overturn this decision. The “transaction” made with Kennedy will have been long forgotten.
They have six and need five. They can lose Roberts and still have the votes.
