There are several big ways that AO3 is not just an archive and has inbuilt social functions that expand its supposed "primary" function. Being able to leave/reply to comments, create public bookmarks w/comments & tags, and participate in exchanges are fundamentally SOCIAL, COMMUNITY functions!
