to get a lil technical for a second — all we're doing is adding a TXT record to the site, not taking anything away :)
using your domain as your handle will actually promote your website
if you want to I can help to translate the official post to Portuguese too!
Is there any official take on this?
Your internet identity is greater than the service you use if choose. It should be verifiable and portable across apps and services you associate it to.
Is my current handle available for claim once I switch to a custom domain?
I suppose this is a good feature for people of interest. Let me do a search to see if I find some information about.
(presumably with "nofollow")
definitely not swag I… err, I mean WE picked up just for using here.
I know it's early days but for many they may not realize it is possible and why, so guide them
“Note: if you change your default Bluesky username (with the .bsky.social suffix) to a custom domain, your old username will be available for someone else to use.”
Does the blog post need to be updated to explain how to keep both?
So who owns @[email protected] ?
It's so long though to use as a handle no?
So folks will run their own Bluesky back end similar to Mastodon.
But then which apps will we use and will this one be available / open sourced?
Cuz that would be very cool.
This app is slick.
I just like this interface way more then say other platform’s interfaces.
A fluid UI - App is key to replacing Twitter.
There needs ro be a way for organizations to issue verified credentials to people to verify workplace they associate to their DID. Identity is awesome challenge to solve.
Traditionally we do this with separate accounts but personal reputation/following is with person not org always.
How many employees do they have?
And....when I post I may do so on my personal identity, you should be able to verify I am associated with that workplace organization if my content relates.....not have to have multiples
whereas rn i have different usernames for insta, twt, etc
(also any invite codes I'd give to my 500k+ follower moots I promise smile, I'm a youtube manager, i will bring normal people here 🙏 🥰)
but we're also discussing other possibilities here to help people out
In my country we use temporary credit cards (limited to 1 purchase) to pay stuff online.
Would love to keep my username/account for future generations to remember 😁
Does it currently just turn back into a random bsky subdomain?
i am hopeful for the atproto ecosystem to grow in a way where we are not so tied to the platform-oriented thinking of preserving a specific https://bsky.social username
we're not technical just for the sake of it — we prioritize intuitive user experience. but we don't want people to entirely forget about the @atproto.com side of things from the beginning
I personally would like to hide the server name since it adds too much viusual clutter but I get why it’s there. By
What if this server adds multiple domains to choose from so people aren't worried about handle hoarding on https://bsky.app to help change the mjndset?
https://bsky.social
personal domain name
corporate domain name
the benefits of a domain handle are clearer if you imagine a whole ecosystem of apps built on atproto -- then, you have the same username across all of them and no bsky suffix!
Squatting my name here is more important than flexing my domain for now for me., heh
But would be really cool to have several aliases so you can have:
just kidding, there’s no built-in way to squat as of now, so you’d have to use another invite code to create an account
eg @emily.bsky.team directs you to my profile, but so does @emilyliu.me
curious, how is it that @emilyliu.me links to @emily.bsky.team?
