Honestly I really like that recent Mario games like the new Mario Kart and Mario Wonder are giving that 90s look to the characters. Feels like it gives them more charm compared to the sanitized look Mario has had for the last 15 years.

Mario Wonder character poses were clearly inspired by the artwork of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the new Mario Kart characters look like modern versions of Mario Kart 64 renders and its character select screen.
