Just finished watching the Nintendo Direct. That certainly was an interesting one! On one hand, if you're a casual Nintendo Switch player, that was probably a pretty lame Direct. It's pretty surreal to not only finally get a new Rhythm Heaven but also a new Tomodachi Life game within the same Direct! This really was THE Direct hard-core Nintendo fans have been dreaming of.

It's also a bit of an odd Direct with oddball announcements like the Virtual Game Cards and the Nintendo Today app. Clearly Nintendo is trying to find ways to get a smooth transition to Switch 2 by keeping people informed of news and allowing them to play their games on both their Switch 1 and 2.

On the subject of Virtual Game Cards, I think it highlights how Nintendo has realized how much of a downside buying digital can be for families who have multiple Switch consoles compared to physical. They want to make it enticing for those people to buy digital instead and get better profit margins.

Ultimately, what the Virtual Game Cards explanation highlights to me though is that there are still a ton of additional restrictions compared to just buying physical which seems like so much less of a hassle.

I guess this VGC concept is also being introduced to make it easy for people to play their digital games on both their old Switch 1 and their new Switch 2 console. But in that case, wasn't there already as system in place for playing your digital games on multiple systems if using the same account?

I don't really have experience using multiple Switch consoles but from the looks of it the new VGC system seems more convoluted then how it already worked before? 🤔
