Basically not counting the conference champion game loss as a “full” loss. They’ll stay ahead of Miami based on similar schedules and more quality wins. I just don’t think they’re going to drop far enough to get below a 3-loss Alabama. - ThreadSky

I don't see why it's not a full loss. There aren't enough data points on teams to not use every game. We know they're not as good as Clemson (or BYU) and have 0 top 25 wins, which puts SMU outside the top 12. Forget Alabama, SMU shouldn't be in the top 15

They went 11-2. The lowest ranked 11-2 Power Conference team in the CFP-era was 2021 Pitt at 12th.

They’re not going to drop below Miami because they couldn’t even make the ACCCG. So it’s them or Alabama.

The results of the games matter, for now.

I get to use your line against you: This is different than the 4-team era in that it’s easier/more common to not play the best teams in your own conference because of conference size. How many 11-2 power conference teams had zero top 25 wins? The games do matter, SMU wasn’t good enough in them

Sure. But you’re forgetting the most important data point. They’re 11-2 and Alabama is 9-3!
