When I'm writing alone, sometimes I'll create a D&D character sheet and backstory for the characters, and essentially use dice rolls to help put spontaneity into the scene I'm creating.
Autism and Adhd.
Basically, I overthink everything and stifle progress, but the story engine has gotten the brain chugging a few times even accidently.
But for character development, the biggest thing I think about are things like character goals, the characterization elements we see on the page, and (1/x)
The goals are derived from background stuff, like...Uhhh my most recent book was about a woman swept up into a shadowy conflict between two (more like three?) groups of super-Humans.
She learns how her past was manipulated to lead her to (2)
We see her put in the effort to become essentially a 'chosen one.' (3)
