Totally disagree. The income inequality they create alone has chased off so many artists and musicians, not to mention just normal people who aren’t rich. Plus they never become part of the culture of the city.

I TOTALLY AGREE. Look at NYC, LA, Chicago, San Fran , Portland. Feast or famine, unchecked landlords, no small biz foundation. Wealth Inequality is the reason we’re in this position now. Dems could’ve used an Interstate Compact to provide single payer healthcare, civil rights, affordable, cleaner
Except for Progressives, the Democrats appear to me to be comfortable, complacent and on the take. They always support corporations over the people. Perfect example: AI. They know it’s killing the creative community, who overwhelmingly vote Democrat. How do they respond?

And the old school Dems control the narrative by calling them “progressives”, aka “radical left”. They had the law and ammo to stop DJT prior to J6 2025 & they pussied-out. Fear of MAGAs & Martial Law & a Constitutional Crisis. Utter BS.
They hate the Progressives because they are everything the centrists are not. They make them look bad. Let’s get rid of the Republican Party and replace it with a Progressive Party.
No parties. In EU they just vote for people ( even those without a party). The national vote IS like a mass primary vote involving all parties. Of course they have big right and left orgs but the system has winners outside that all the time.
2/-communities. But Dems needed campaign dollars, insider trading & their healthcare is single payer. They could preserve choice. Citizens United meant the richest ppl in the USA run govt.
It's the NIMBYism that creates inequality. Artists had to move away because housing is absurdly expensive. It's expensive because we don't build enough. The Tech Boom made it worse, but it by itself is not the root of the problem.
I would say it supercharged it. But I agree, no one was paying attention to housing and NIMBY’s won the day. Now catching up might get ugly. Seven story buildings in residential neighborhoods is going to be a shock.
There are mansions & luxury bldgs empty in every major city; money laundering and developers walking away with a check and not enough millionaires & billionaires to occupy them. Empty malls & school bldgs have been beautifully converted to affordable housing. Even an old baseball stadium ( they
NIMBYs are not the rich. They're us, the people of SF, who voted for "progressive" politicians such as Aaron Peskin, Dean Preston, etc. SF politics has been dominated by progressives for decades. Let's not blame it on the rich.
I’m not saying there aren’t many factors that have led to our diminishment, but I’ve been in the city since 1988 and it’s not the progressive policies, it’s the vast income inequality and lack of money in the system that has made it unaffordable. Every mayor since Art Agnos had tried to fix
I moved to LA in ‘89; you could find an apt for $400 in less than a week. My friend rented a shared bungalow for $650. My last apt was $775 and it had a huge pool & patio. It’s $3k now. SoHo doesn’t house artists, just celebs, heirs, rich art collectors & music producers. Now dorms that are SUPER $
