For context: he’s a racing pigeon who was abandoned by his French owner. They’re supposed to send a courier for everyone of their lost pigeons and they can get fined heavily if they don’t. So I’m working with a local rescuer to get his tags transferred over to me.

These pigeons are hand raised, and heavily dependent on humans for survival. They can survive in the wild but it’s not ideal. And often times late returners are outright killed because they don’t complete a race. I’ll be fostering him for a while until we find him a home

I had a similar encounter last summer! Unfortunately, when I found him, he was completely decimated and had been lost outside on his own for more than a month. Ended up passing before I could get him to a vet, but was planning on rehabbing him for a home. Poor little dude.
