People don't come out of school understanding that they can work their whole career with no on-screen credit, That they will be entering a contract to contract industry with little long term investment that has only grown in the last decade because its service work grew with the streaming bubble

It served a false reflection of the industry booming, lead to schools pumping out a LOT of animation students...and now we are left with a shrunken industry that is chock full of senior talent with no work who did not grow their savings because rising jobs dont mean rising wages.

This outsourced system doesn't benefit one country over the other, its a class thing and damages every worker. Why is it set up like that? Because Money.

Its leading to jobs in the US more pre-production oriented and jobs in canada being more production oriented. We stop teaching skills.

Its also known that service studios may outsource the work again, this isn't new.

When the habit is always to push to your resources limits instead of building a sustainable system you will always cut corners. That's the thought process of the industry at large that we are dealing with.

And when I say isn't new, I'm kinda just saying its been like that since the 1980s and its been getting worse and worse since. It doesnt *have* to be this way, but it requires work on our end in canada to demand better treatment and stop leaving it up to the studios to shape the industry.

Its heartbreaking to know that more then ever, younger generations want to tell stories and are going through this system that takes a redonk amount of money, wants them to conform into a frame crunching machine and spits them out into an unstable industry. We all deserve so much better

Am not a fan of outsourcing. Primarily because I do not believe in/support the “race to the bottom” to make shareholders *all the money* versus just *a lot of money*.

Also the group outsourced to are often exploited, and those outsourced from have skill, knowledge, opportunity bled away as a result

There’s also little acknowledgement in school of exactly how much work you will never be able to show for portfolio sake bc a lot of studios don’t allow us Canadian/ outsource teams to ever share our work on socials even after the show has aired. :/

Ohhh these “service studios” are what I call outsource studios? Its hard enough to find non-contract work here in the US, I cant imagine how hard it is there if service studios are the majority of your industry (fwiw we have outsource studios here too, idk what the proportion is tho)
