Francis Collins, one of the stalwart members of NIH and its leader for many years, retired suddenly Friday. Within a few hours, the NIH website goes dark for about 12 hours. Once it’s back, PubMed, the leading source listing for medical research and staunchly nonpartisan, goes down.
