16 February 1753 Jacobite Thomas Deacon died. His tomb, in St Ann’s churchyard, Manchester declares him ‘the greatest of sinners’. The head of his son, executed for his role in the 1745 Rebellion to reclaim throne, was displayed on Manchester Exchange as a warning to potential traitors.
