Yes that is crazy. I wonder if a person can be prosecuted for taking a banned book over state lines. I think the last book they tried to ban here in Australia was “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” back in the 1960s.
Banned books are removed from public and private school libraries, local town, city libraries etc. When I was in school we had required reading, A Wrinkle in Time, Lord of the Flies etc.. now some schools refuse to teach those books or carry them
