The whiskey thing: I love Wikipedia's timeline for Irish inventions/discoveries:
They invented whiskey in the 14th century and drank for 3 before doing anything else.
Never mind that cultural fluff. The Irish are important because they stood up to the British ruling class and kicked them (mostly) out of their country.
Yes but, Derry girls came through uk TV. Cillian Murphy became famous from UK tv. It seems to me that The Irish need the UK to actually do any thing. Ps chocolate milk was invented in Jamaica ( an English colony at the time ).
But you also gave us Mrs Brown's Boys, for which you'll never ever be forgiven. I only recognise a United Éire so you can't get out of it by blaming NI.
Much of what we know of the Greek and Roman era is from saved manuscripts by the Irish monks. Ireland was an academic hub due to being secluded from the problems from the collapse of Roman society
Oh, oh, oh.... have you already forgotten Colm Toibin, Seamus Heaney, Jennifer Johnson, James Joyce, Edna O'Brien, Samuel Beckett, Molly Keane, Oscar Wilde, Elizabeth Bowen and our beloved Tony Curtis and Two Poems in Memory of Michael Hartnett?
