Are they then “content” with mediocre performance? Probably not, because who doesn’t prefer to be good than meh? But they may well have calculated that the spending required to escape mediocrity reduces their projected ROI. So we revert to “no move too small.” Sound familiar?

Even if the Giants were operating at a loss, which I doubt, trends suggest the annual increase in franchise value far outpaces any operating loss. So the owners are getting richer.

Teams don't spend based on franchise values. They spend based on revenue. E.g. my house going up in value doesn't mean I can just spend more cash than I have.
