I stg anyone who thinks the public service is over resourced should be forced to work on an actual project in the public sector. It feels like the only thing that is consistanly funded is the instant coffee and even that clearly hasn't been replaced in a while

I suspect the depts are letting them all go, then they will turn round when asked to do something by the Govt and say "Oh, we'd love to help but we've got no staff" and look all surprised.

Oh, they won't look surprised at all, if their managers are at all competent they'll say "as per your directive, we no longer possess this capacity as you deemed 6-7% savings more important than retaining this staff function. We cannot assist without further resources."

A touch of both I feel. Heard a first-hand account last week about a flatmate that worked for MoE planning school districts in Waikato. Sounds like he only worked about 5 hours a week. Played games the rest of the time. It was a full-time role!
