I agree. I think the Lib Dem proposal to raise the funds through a Digital Services Tax is preferable!

It's tricky for sure. They also have to balance that spending with domestic requirements such as NHS, social care, cost of living, pot holes and so on. I hate this "red line" thing. Money can only be raised by taxes or borrowing. I prefer a combination of both. World's change and so should red lines

I wonder whether, having been pushed to act, this is simply expedient as it doesn’t need a fiscal event to push through.

I’m prepared to guess we will see a correction at the next budget.

But he needs to start signalling a ‘tax the rich’ intent right now.
