As per the article, half a pound (250grams ish?) can remove as much CO2 as a tree (100-> 10 tonnes?).
There's some super big error bars on these numbers but we're not in danger of running out of O2 and we seem to be doing okay for lumber
Not to be all shooting down*, but the wooden satellite that was launched by Japan was 900g.
I don't know if you saw the diamonds made of carbon pulled from the atmosphere, and people said they could be a solve for CChange? Weight of a diamond, 5g? Avg yearly uk co2 emissions, 10 tonnes.
is this a pun for shooting down satellites? I don't know. I just think we've definitely passed Peak Wood as a planet., and if there's a shortage there's lots of mechanisms to regrow the trees in lots of places
No. This was a serious explorative project. They didn’t go into too much detail, I might listen again on Sounds.
Don’t think it’s designed for re entry though 😱
“We shouldn’t rely on natural forests to do the job. We really, really have to tackle the big issue: fossil fuel emissions across all sectors,” says Prof Pierre Friedlingstein of Exeter University, who oversees the annual Global Carbon Budget calculations.
Carbon capture is the climate version of slim jabs. Changing our lifestyle is, for the vast majority of cases, the best long-term solution. But we keep looking for some fabricated "miracle" because... reasons. Sigh.
Anyway. It sounds like this is more costly than available renewable technology?
It's great and all. But moss can already capture hundreds of times more carbon than trees. Not sure why urban planners arent incorporating moss into every surface imaginable. All you need is grooves and ridges.
Don’t worry, the industry has ruined the environment for money but here they are with yet another expensive way to fix everything while still being allowed to continue polluting without changing anything else. Just pass that cost on to the customer and tax payers. This time it will work!

but it also seems like a novel way to get CO2 PPM down with little power - e.g., aiports, airline cabins, schools, factories, homes.
And needing just 120F you could clean up and recharge a filter with an Easy-Bake oven.

Just heard on Rare Earth on Radio 4 today that they’re investigating wooden satellites!!👍

But also, yay? 🤷♂️
Or, be careful what you wish for?
