Making comments like this about the women who have been brave enough to report should end his contract. It's more evidence if any was needed that #GreggWallace has a problem with #women who are old enough and brave enough to call him out.
Aka - systemic misogyny and victim blaming means the young, less articulate and well-off women he may have (allegedly) harassed haven't yet felt able to come forward for fear of not being believed
Well, I've met thousands of people in my life socially and at work, and I've only physicality assaulted, like, 17 of them, and I don't know what their problem is.
I am willing to bet that there is not a single man of Gregg Wallace's age that has not at some time dropped a couple of inappropriate comments or a double entendres at some stage in their lives ...not one
With this statement Wallace appears to admit to this sort of behaviour towards a broad spectrum of women, while simultaneously acknowledging that most women aren’t in a financial or career position to reject his behaviour. It’s a clear admission of guilt.
The only “good” thing about Gregg Wallace’s boorish and revealing response to being held accountable is all the great responses here giving me lots of interesting people to follow
Time will tell, but people defending this sexual pervert against middle-class victims should maybe hold on with their comments, as I'm sure that there will be plenty more complainants to come in the next few weeks, and not just middle class people.
Mr Wallace’s response sums up why he finds himself in this position in the first place. He couldn’t have chosen a worst way to respond. An apology to the women involved and a bit of humility would’ve been a better place to start.
He s not wrong. I look forward to the day everyone, yes, including men, complain about inappropriate behaviour. In the meantime it seems only middle aged, middle class women have the guts.
Power. They have the relative power to do it. Experience of taking up space and claiming voice. Consider how much harder it may feel to working class or young women or WOC.
However there is no way middle aged middle class man did not witness inappropriate behaviour. They have power, but they don't come forward, at least in public. It's tragic.
Buddy, I live in Maryland surrounded by them. There’s a shrinking but thriving middle class that will slit your throat if they think it could get them ahead an inch.

Hey Greg Wallace, I'm a #middleclasswomanofacertainage, what we put up in the workplace, no man would tolerate.
We remain professional, keep quiet out of fear of losing our position we fight hard to achieve in a patriarchal society.
Enough becomes enough.
if one person made a complaint, you could ignore it as possibly a misinterpretation, but there have been a number, all saying the same, and they're not all "middle-class women of a certain age".
So likely women with the status and confidence to call him out on his behaviour, whereas as women in a perceived 'junior' position may be too worried about the power dynamic and their career prospects?
I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt whilst any investigation was happening but now he's released this video I'm 100% convinced he is in fact the creepy misogynist he's accused of being.
I fear, no, different word needed... Rejoice, better, in the feeling that his statement has just opened flood gates to all those who aren't in this demographic but experienced his behaviour + felt they couldn't complain, to now feel empowered to do so. Good move, Gregg.
I met Gregg when I was a runner. He was pretty nice relatively speaking to be fair. Down to earth.
But I do distinctly remember him telling a joke that wasn't great, that he found hilarious.
It's a Hop, skip and a jump to the allegations but I can just about make it connect.
Is this another one of his very bad jokes! Only this time he is the punchline. The fact he thinks that it’s only one type of person who complains means he has done it many times.
There are lots of ways I would have advised Greg to deal with the situation. This is the worst one. He might as well have ended the interview by referring to the journalist as "sweet cheeks".
What class an age of women would he accept claims from? I’m sure they’ll be some along in a minute. It’s just the “middle-class women of a certain age” have at least some of the wherewithal to challenge a powerful man first off.
Is anyone surprised when ageing and successful "alpha males" are called out for inappropriate behaviour towards younger women or men? It goes with the territory. Organisations need to do much more to actively manage this risk, instead of burying their heads in the sand.
I suspect the viewing figures for Masterchef may well increase now that the smarmy barrow boy has gone.
Now is the chance to replace him with someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
🙂
Man shows himself to be blissfully unaware not just of his own age, but also the way in which he will happily use a woman’s age as a weapon against her. Knobheads will knobhead.

Oh and what age is he?

Here's 2 of about 20 stories over the years.

And she once goosed me in Waitrose.
Good luck buying a house and raising a family on one income. Two incomes can’t even do that anymore.

Do you think they faked the election results?

What a ridiculous response.
You don't get to call someone a bully whilst calling them tubby and bald. It kind of undermines your moral high ground
Is he hoping for a job in Trump’s administration?
Blame those cat-ladies for failing to appreciate your witty banter...
Guess how many complaints there have been about my behaviour
Zero
As I’m not a sexist prick

Is there anybody anywhere actually defending him?
I came up blank.
"A critic..." she said.
And at that point I immediately knew it was going to be Sitwell. It was.
No great shakes 👍
After blaming autism, Wallace now implies that women of a certain demographic are beyond sexual harrassment. Who told him to keep digging down?

Even before the accusations I found him quite irksome - not sure why the BBC seemed to think he was a good fit for so many TV shows.
