I have decided when seriously ill in my old age to stay home to die peacefully rather than be tortured by overworked hospital staff indifferent to human dignity...
Nothing will change until the NHS is fully removed from under political control and run solely by elected boards of patients representative groups, independent staff bodies and independent experts.
Transient politicians \ trade union leaders with transient mandates use NHS as a political football
The problem is the NHS system is run by politicians for their political benefit and trades unions for their members benefits not patients or tax payers benefits
Utopian fantasy! How exactly will the funding be provided? By a blank cheque given to these "elected boards." ? And how will politics be removed from a system which depends on elections? Yes, there has to be a better way - but this ain't it...
Most councillors are not independent but stand on a party ticket. Also many councils are so badly run they are facing bankrupcy. (See Birmingham, for instance.) Is that what we want for the NHS?
I was unfortunate to have taken ill in Estonia last week. I went to the A&E in Tallinn. I was triaged after 5 mins, had blood test, urine samples, CT scan, ECG, diagnosis report, IV fluid n prescription done in just over 2 hours for €5 n EHIC card. We r delusional to believe we r 1st world country
At least NHS keeps track of the number of delays (patients and hours). In our for profit Healthcare system, the people never see these numbers. I'm sure the hospital administrators do, but we the people don't. I can tell you from experience, it can take days bf you get moved out of emergency rooms
My brother-in-law died at home waiting for the hospital to call for a bed. They told him come back tomorrow, he died that night of heart attack at 3:00 a.m.
A stark reminder on the need for much tighter Data Quality control across our industry. As well as the seamless flow of accurate information between care settings.
Absolutely unacceptable! How can this happen? Because the NHS is underfunded and the staff overworked and understaffed. The government needs to get its priorities straight and create better conditions for citizens and those serving them.
I had prostate cancer, was seen to by excellent oncology team, radiation treatment on state of the art equipment, regular follow ups - all on the NHS. My brother in the US? Same treatment but quite a bit poorer at the end. For profit medical care instead of NHS? I don’t think so…

But what can one expect from a State owned past its sell date rag.

You do realise that there are hundreds of independent councillors etc around the country being independent
You do realise that independent councillors are elected to be independents right
Whilst this poor man’s treatment was terrible, he died of Parkinson’s and a chest infection weeks later, according to your own article.
