This is an example of creating solutions to problems that do not exist. If they want an empty venue because 90% of participants are there for their instagram feed, that is their prerogative. I hate phone cameras in gyms. I work out at home now. This trend will likely un-trend itself in due course.
I hope this becomes a bigger movement. It absolutely kills the atmosphere when half the crowd have their phones in the air. No idea how you'd police this though
90% of clubs and club bars in Berlin have a strict no phone rule putting a stickers on people’s cameras, its a life changing thing as people feel safe, free and put out of social media bubble.
"We totally understand that people may want to capture footage to remember the night, however we have an in-house content team who will take care of that" - so no different to a venue that sells food saying you can't bring your own.
I get the point. I don't know how you get a stadium's-worth of people to leave their phones at home in what's now a world culture.
The band Tool requests no phones out for their concerts until the last song. But it's a request.
Small venues can handle them in other ways.
But this?

I have been to arena concerts in uk where these have been used.
These appear to be a solution.
