Free speech is not for the like of us ordinary folk 🤫
Cue the massive clamp down on those who've responded so far by posting (how could I put it) 'interesting facts' about Zuckerberg.
I never had a Twitter account. I have just set my Facebook account to be deleted. I haven’t used it in over 10 years and find it’s only really used by my parents generation these days. Better to not use platforms that are essentially just places for bigots to hide and nonsense to be spread.
Interesting listening to a member of their (useless) Oversight Board saying that, if anything, Meta has been overzealous with bans - that certainly applies to #freeTheNipple and similar but not to dealing with racism and other hate crimes.
Now there’s quite the grift by the zuckerman who affords a 900k$ watch and asks his customers to do community notes knowing full well the deplorable deluded ones are not going to read them. Facts should be determined before posting.
That facts should be determined before posting doesn't mean Community Notes don't work and it's also no reason why censorship by mods would be better or a good thing.
Social media communication is relatively new and the detrimental effect on audience is a consequence that hasn’t been completely understood. Obvious humans are vulnerable to propaganda and evil intentions of others. Platform moderation necessary.
1. Platform moderation isn't all gone, just a large part of it is cut 2. Much of it can be automated via AI 3. It's not like it was working well before 4. Community notes will still point things out & could be more effective 5. moderation didn't mitigate these issues well & ppl need digital literacy
The posters who are pot stirrers, bots or uninformed will not appreciate/read community notes. Even musk stirs the pot despite being corrected by his community notes. He doesn’t remove his post. Social media negative impact still not fully grasped. We should focus on the dangers.
Agree on that and there's lots of options, like introducing digital literacy & media literacy courses in education or improving community notes, e.g. so that people do read community notes and profiles get rated according to how often posted (& liked?) misinfo. Lots of constructive things to do
The Guardian should pull itself from the platform for this assault on common sense, it’s got nothing to do with freedom of speech. I’ll quote a Guardian columnist again: “You can prove anything with facts.”
Meanwhile I've reported several egregiously racist posts without any response beyond "This does not violate our terms of service". I did once get a complaint upheld, probably because I was complaining about something racist that could be construed as being from a right-wing perspective.
I reported the use of the "n' word, Trumpers bullying a woman because of her weight and horrible lies about gay people. Meta's response: "This does not violate....".
First of all for yourself if you must use is use fluff buster purity
Secondly if you you turn that off, and look at the millions of ignorant posts on there responding to disinfo, bot posts, AI junk, outright manipulation, that believe these posts are real, you'll f'ing despair.
As soon as our feeds get more random stuff from strangers than posts from our own friends, we've lost control of it. We've all become rats in a social engineering experience. And rats don't control the lab
huh? it's full of nothing but ads and random crap now. I can't imagine how much worse it can get. We need a new Facebook-type alternative so we can all leave Zuck's trash to rot along with Elon's X.

Growing Bluesky and removing Daily Active Users from X and Meta weakens the power of their platforms.
Let's grow and strengthen OUR community!
Mr Zuckerberg, wouldn't you like some respectful recognition instead of a Forbes ranking?
You have the power to make your kids see a better world.

By choosing where we do to express our views and where we give our clicks, we're giving power to these platforms
They are nothing without us, yet we act like they are the ones in control
