“Spain’s tenants spend 40% of their income on rent and utility bills.” EU average is 27%. I imagine it’s a lot higher than both those figures in the UK. In many cities it is for sure.
Just days ago I visited friends that rented apartment through booking near Sagrada Familia. Every apartment I looked at was for tourists. I know that a lot of local home owners with such properties would rather rent them out due to the insane amount of money they are getting for 1 night stay
Start making tourists go home more forcefully. Tax them out, ban Airbnb, raise prices on plane tickets. Make travel once in a lifetime again. No more cheap tours and cheap, stupid tourists.

No pressure, of course. If you are not interested that's okay. Hope you have a beautiful day!
I agree. It's a system that benefits lots of people and they won't let go of the golden goose easily. In the meantime, people pay rents that are absolutely huge and disproportionate to the property, preventing them from ever saving enough to buy their own home.
More importantly it is hard to have a real life when so much goes on rent. Renters feel trapped. Economy suffers from lack of spending. Less VAT raised. It's dead money. Bankers and landlords get richer
