Also, the nonfiction first person account “And The Violins Stopped Playing” (also made into a film) documents the separate incarceration of Gypsies and Gypsy musicians at Auschwitz..most murdered eventually because they were witnesses. Account written by an escapee.

But I have to admit that beautiful MUSIC, in the face of such horror, helped to blunt the terror of the place.
