Ah if it isn't dirty Israel-based Paragon Solutions again. An American-Funded, Super-Secretive Israeli Surveillance Startup That ‘Hacks WhatsApp & Signal’.
Paragon was co-founded by former Israeli PM Ehud Barak was sold to a US private equity firm AE Industrial Partners for $900m in 2024
Okay, how about just a safe app to use among a group of friends? We are not high profile, but I have some friends in the US and one outside the US that want to make sure our conversations are secure.
The main issue is adoption, it's hard to make people switch, the network effect is very powerful. It's also never possible to know if something is 100% safe.
That being said Signal has the biggest user count amongst the private instant messengers. I find it's the easiest to make people switch to.
Signal is very secure and privacy respecting but it has two issues. First it's US based, but it's a non profit and has a strong track record of resisting attacks. Second it requires a phone number, which is an issue if you need to be extra secret.
Meta has facilitated genocide, manipulated elections, violated user privacy, amplified hate speech, harmed mental health, engaged in monopolistic practices, enabled misinformation, and profited from illegal activities—all while prioritizing growth over ethical responsibility.
Yeah, but in this case, it doesn't really look like it's their fault. Maybe it's just a PR stunt, but from all appearances they themselves blew the whistle on the whole thing and notified the victims, and are now pursuing legal action against the spyware company.
Ok, almost every spy case on the news are made by Israel, Israel-based or Israel-whatever... and never by the America, the American government or an American company?

'A person/thing viewed as a model of excellence' - human rights activists, diplomats, attorneys, journalists targeted.
This world is broken.
However I don't see what they did wrong in this particular case.
And it's very hard to protect against targeted attacks, it would require an hardened mobile OS like GrapheneOS or an iPhone in lockdown mode.
You can however protect yourself against non targeted data harvesting by using privacy respecting apps.

Other good alternatives are Element/Matrix, SimpleX and Briar.
