I thought the author got it until I saw the picture of her with the dog. Though she might not like to admit it, or she's accepting of the noise she generates, I am certain that the terrier's barking shatters the silence for anyone in the vicinity.
I sent this article to my college aged kidaults - they both can suffer from stimuli overload and not realize it. I remember during COVID remarking to myself how quiet my walks were & I did experience that release/decompression the article was referring to. The birds were also so much more lively
Some years ago I moved to a small community on the Big Island of Hawai’i from the U.S. I discovered on a visit back to the Mainland the noise there had become almost unbearable. I had become so accustomed to the quieter surroundings of my new home that I was uncomfortable where I’d once not been.
