The build part of build to rent is a productive investment. Ie houses get built. The tricky part for the government overall is ensuring rents stabilise and even go down in real terms as more housing is built.
I think it's astonishingly easy for people to "invest" in UK property. It's a disaster for most everyday people – asset rich foreigners can buy UK property and rent it out which in some cases – such as in Sweden – they could not do easily if the situation was reversed.
I guess the same people who thought that Brexit is good idea, think that foreign private equity is way to affordable housing? These two statements are on the same level of stupid.
Of course it is. Making a house affordable to own is a bad business model. Why let someone have something when you could milk them for their whole lives by "renting" it to them. This is the world we created where money is the end goal.
Private equity is destroying the world. Governments need to ban them from owning residential homes and apartments, and buying up small businesses. Pure evil.
