Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Japan, East Indies, South Korea and no doubt other like minded Nations should be uniting against the Trump dictatorship. Together these Nations would be far stronger and isolate the US which would eventually derail Trump.
India is as much of an autocracy as the US. Australia if it has a right wing government would gladly join the US. Japan and S Korea need the US defence umbrella to protect from China. The group of democracies is small.
I wasn't advocating India but the East Indies, Jamaica etc that could join a new group with possibly central America for economic reasons. Agree Japan & South Korea need the US to a point but given Trump/Musk are out to upset the apple cart, they might loose that support soon.
The US has exited the family of democracies and free nations. The world is far far more dangerous now that a super power has gone rogue. We're not on our own, Canada, New Zealand and maybe Japan. We've got to bring more nations into our alliance. It's a new darks beginning.
It is. European Leaders saw 2016 as an aberration and sighed with relief when Trump lost in 2020. Then they didn’t see that Trump and the MAGA Republicans hadn’t gone away, so wasted 8 years in total they could have used to prepare. Meloni, Orban et al kept their eyes on the ball and were ready.
The population of the USA is 340M v 720M living in Europe. The time has come for Europe to let the USA know that with a criminal in the WH who cosies up to a Russian war criminal, the USA is no longer either a 'super power' nor the leader of the Free World.
Are you familiar with the saying "safety in numbers"?
Prior to the USA installing a convicted felon to the Presidency, a United "Western World" kept a corrupt Russian leader in check, now that one of those leaders is a Russian asset, it's time to cut them adrit & fend for ourselves!
I know you Brits don’t consider Canada as anything but a colony but that’s a mistake you have made for too long. We are and always have been an ally for all of Europe. We fought in both world wars and during the Balkan issues with NATO. This democracy never cowers to tyranny.
Most Brits (I'm one) would think your opening statement ceased to be true about two generations ago. Whatever, any countries that can embrace a set of shared values - democracy, a free press and judiciary, commitment to the rule of law - need to unify in their own self-interest.
There are 13 American bases in the UK they need to be asked to leave. The USA needs to be removed from the 5 eyes and we need to detach. The airbases can be allocated as new town zones and we move on. This is ridiculous.
Where is Winston? Europe is under attack. Unite left and right, Support the economy, prop up Euro, 3M EU task force troops on EU borders w Russia, manage immigration, show finger to Trump and Putin. Bring Canada, Mexico India Brasil close, and China even closer. New Ducking World order
What is it that people can’t see? The echoes of the 1930s aren’t just parallels—they’re warnings. The rise of authoritarianism, targeting of marginalized groups, the erosion of democracy. Trump & Musk’s actions aren’t just troubling; they’re dangerous. If this doesn’t alarm you, ask yourself—why?
It's probably a case of the "long habit" syndrome. We're programmed not to want familiar things to change so we resist accepting it when they do. Like people standing at a bus stop that's been removed.
Europe needs a "massive defense plan" to face the growing threat from Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron said ahead of his planned visit to Washington, D.C.
"I'm going to tell Trump 'You can't be weak with Putin. That's not who you are, it's not your trademark, it's not in your interest,'" 😮
This is spot on. Knew it would be bad but this is a nightmare. Europe needs to see what has happened here and do everything in its power to avoid the same fate. Secure your election process. Promote a free press. Vilify nazis and dictators. Save yourselves.
What is ending is America being at the centre. Its strength has been through leading. It no longer wants that. Trump is only interested in extortion. Walk away and let Trump find countries he can exploit for money. Because, oddly, all his actions are driven by money.
China is playing on all chess boards. They probably take Siberia when Russia is more weak so that they have their own gas and minerals. At the moment is is better for china to back Russia. But that will change. And they will drop them like a stone and take what they want.
Dont let yourself be fooled. The view of GB might be, that they feel isolated because they left the EU.
The EU however has itself.
So yes, the UK might feel on its own and so does the US.
And this is very good, but the so-called Western civilisation is over.
Run over by barbarians on social benefits.
This time, its own will choose to surrender.
General suffrage helped very much as well
If Europe is over so is America as we descend into a worsening economy, isolated and despised for what we've done to other nations. Russia is seen as Piranha and us, too now under Trump. The damage he's doing will last long after him, our valued trust is gone and won't return the same.
Have hope, the American people aren't the enemy here, just your extreme govt. Things can change dramatically. Nine years ago you had an exemplary president respected around the world. If you can restore a good government in four years time (yes, a very big if), this conversation could become moot.

The actual change is that the US joined Rusky Mir.

With the rise of populism everywhere, any country can flip alliances (and sanity) like Trump & Friends did.
