European defence spending could reach a point where it goes from nice-to-have to urgently essential. I hope the governments know how to see and prepare for this point.

Time to stop pissing around. We either have one or we don’t. I go with the former and no doubt Starmer will need to tell the Orange Tyrant how we will get to 3%.
Even 3% isn’t enough. To be honest we are more risk than during the 80s when NATO and the US were reliable. We spent 4-5% of GDP on defence in those days.
There is much talk about increasing defence spending, but I've read little about what this means in practice - on what and from where? Any recommendations of further reading on this aspect?
