May be an unpopular opinion but I think convicted criminals *should* be allowed to stand for public office. It's a way of safeguarding against authoritarianism, ironic though that may sound.
Marine Le Pen should be banned from every running for the French presidency. The Germans put Hitler in jail for 5 years and look what happened after that.
Meanwhile, on the daily mail website, they're all squealing about the 'lefty judges', 'liberal establishment/elite', 'and attack on democracy', and the usual confected outrage that is spawned by their hypocrisy and double standards 🙄
How can the US adopt these policies ? Like banning any and ALL associated with Felon47 ? Any and ALL associated with the Heritage Project? Clean out the cancer!!
Better, more honest title: "Marine Le Pen found guilty of all fraud charges, with immediate applicability due to high risk of fraud recurrence". Being barred is a consequence.

Maybe because they are the ones crying the most about it. Plus to gaslight the public, so they think that it’s some kind of persecution instead of the law being applied to any politicians in her situation.
I find it astonishing that some are so shocked. Politicians of all persuasions, should all be barred if convicted of a criminal offence. Most of us would be sacked from our jobs for less!!
Seems like a criminal record involving a custodial punishment should automatically exclude someone from running for public office for at least twice as long as the sentence itself. In every democratic country.
