"unstructured" socialising with friends now is the back-and-forth of reel sending on Insta/TikTok. Unless you live with them, people dont have time for face-to-face like they would have 20+ years ago
I believe it's Hegel, when describing the owl of Minerva,notes how the human being catches the startled eyes of another, late at night, in pitch darkness. His point: insight comes only after its flown. In other words, when we meet one another,
we seek to find common ground with a loose suture of intertextual, well-trodden phrases and cliches - whilst understanding (lacking real insight into one other in the moment) that - actually - we are utterly utterly alone, unable to communicate, and will die screaming in the void.
