ANYONE's rights can be knocked out in a second. This is what most people fail to understand. This is not limited to trans people. Human rights can be rolled back with the stroke of a pen. And the UK has simply joined in. Niemöller warned us all with his poem. *EVERYONE* ignore it at their own peril.
At its heart this is a simple issue of biology. This is the basis for many human rights that recognize differences in the two sexes and especially the vulnerability and dignity of biological females. The individual choice to obfuscate those differences are subordinate irrespective of the rainbow.
As a "biological woman", I'd say this is nonsense. Feminists have been fighting not to be defined by our biology for decades. Abusive men are a problem, trans people aren't.
The focus is on trans women but if anything the effect in trans men is even worse. Their biology of birth bars them from men's spaces. Their physical outward appearance bars them from female space. And these mythical third spaces the EHRC are needed simply don't exist.
Why is it that their biology bars them from men's spaces?
You are implicitly acknowledging that women need separate spaces, changing rooms, prisons or shelters...or do you think that trans men, trans women, intersexuals or any opportunist that feels like it should be allowed to invade women's spaces?
I don't know if you have a trans law in the UK, I guess so. In Spain anybody, ANYBODY can change gender just by going twice to the Register. So there are cases of, let's say far right men, that are registered as "women", they have the right to go to a female locker room, or if they hit their couples
they don't go to specific courts of, how do you call it? Sexist, chauvinistic or gender violence, they go to normal courts and are judged as if they were women beating up other women. Opportunists, they are not trans or anything.
He/she spoke about biology.
As a matter of fact I think the casus belli was about trans women in women spaces. A feminist group brought it to court not a men's association.
The court said "biological female", I've studied biology/ecology years, in that time I have read many papers that cannot clearly define "female" nor "male". In humans there is no clear binary biological "female" nor "male", & the more we look the more we find that we are a spectrum between the two
Oh bullshit really. There are a few exceptions to the rule like intersexuals but female is XX and male XY.
Then, the gender, that you think you are female or male because you identify yourselve with stupid sexist sterotypes...
Sorry but no, it's quite clear except for a few "special" individuals.
Good that the guardian is publishing this kind of article now. Probably should've been doing it from the start, rather than being in the vanguard of the hate mob for years though
Let’s talk science.
22 chromosomes + XX doesn’t equal 22 chromosomes + XY
Let’s talk feelings.
Women feeling they need a safe space is as important as Trans Women feeling they need a safe space.
Let’s talk maths.
Trans Women ≠ Women
Women ≠ Trans Women
Science? Thanks to the moral panic of the last few years anyone willing to be educated knows that chromosomes are more than XX/XY, intersex people are as common as redheads (and just as normal) and hormones don't always affect biology as expected. Also many cultures accept more than 2 genders
That's cherry picking.
The facts about chromosomes, hormones and gonads are still valid.
If you want to look at strangers genitals, pay for it like any other pervert
The Guardian has been transphobic for decades. All women are women whether cis and trans and you drove the wedge in. You just couldn't stop hating on a subject you know nothing about and still don't.
Privileged women patronising and hating on women less lucky with life. How very Guardian.
Gender reassignment is the protected characteristic in terms of trans rights, so trans people still have their rights. It was women who lost their rights when gender ID started to supersede sex in law/policy. The SC ruling simply restored our rights.
Trans women are being harmed because people like your bare choosing to harm them, a thing you could also choose not to do. May your days be as you deserve, in number and in quality.
the focus on trans issues (see the extraordinary number of interactions here) is wholly disproportionate to the group, when set against issues of race and disability, for example. There is a systemic moralism here - (see 9.20min -10.20min below)...

but it's interesting the way a single subject becomes the fulcrum of that moralism within the class system. These "cultural burrs" deserve sociological and anthropological attention.
If I were a trans person, I think I'd be quite irked by the number of "well wishers" ready to pummel me with their good will like some umbrella-carrying hariden from The Village in The Prisoner.
I'd be hyper-conscious of the "good" attention, living a hellish life
(note to self: consider writing a psychological thriller about an "ally" for 2026).
(extra note to self): block creepy little sods who can't be assed to play a 1 minute video.
Unfortunately, the privilege (not right) of accessing spaces of the opposite sex has been abused to the detriment of women and girls, so it is necessary to reassert our rights.
Insisting saline bags and a surgical cavity is female biology, and lesbians are somehow not women, is part of the issue.
1. I haven’t heard of any actual examples of this.
2. That’s collective punishment which is obviously against the human rights of the innocent majority
‘James agrees: “So many trans women are bodily indistinguishable from cis women, with breasts and a vagina. Any gender non-conforming lesbian should also be worried.”’
Citation please. Like trans women are vulnerable to being attacked by cis men.https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/think/amp/ncna789621 Like do you think that people with more feminine traits that are difficult to control are safe in cis male spaces?
There are plenty of cisgender women with "saline bags" so not sure what your point is, other than to be vile and cruel. While TERFs may find the biology-is-destiny argument persuasive now, it will not serve them well in the long run, especially once they understand its broader consequences.
Yes, male and female are categories, the broader issue is what defines these as social categories & what criteria is used. We don’t walk around the world with our genitals exposed. Just be honest, your using biological determinism to pursue a punitive campaign against a marginal social group.
Fascinating that TERFS can't seem to connect that gendered expectations about men & women are often justified with appeals to biology (e.g., “women are naturally more nurturing,” “men are biologically more suited to leadership”), and playing the same card against transpeople is a losing proposition.
It isn't about genitalia - that's a male perspective. The whole point of feminism is recognising that women live in a male dominated world that limits our choices and opportunities. Women need male free public spaces.
I don't know I've seen alot of bigots talk about a woman's biology and genitalia so it's hard to take that seriously like the mind of a woman is a factor.
100% agree. Including transwoman doesn't negate male free spaces. By refusing to recognize transwoman as woman & insisting on legally haranguing & dehumanizing a tiny minority is cruel. But I suspect the cruelty is the point.
Congratulations to everyone, including the Guardian, who got us to this place. An issue blown out of all proportion as an election tool and a bandwagon jumped on by all the high profile bigots and their sheep. You must feel very proud.
Another article wailing about the plight of MEN, not bothering to mention the plight of millions of WOMEN who're pissed off with blokes invading their spaces and seriously attacking them online and out in public.
"Janey’s colleagues don’t know she’s trans (Janey is not her real name)." You've put her photo in the fekkin paper and written a whole article about her!!! Yeh, that'll keep her "safe".
The Guardian has been one of this country's foremost peddlers of transphobia for years, we won't let you weasel out of it now that you're shocked and dismayed at the consequences of your actions
I honestly can’t believe that I’m living in a time where I have to worry that not only the fate of our public education system but our democratic society and country are in the hands of the Supreme Court!! 🤯😳🤬😰🫣
You’re talking about the Wi Spa thing, I assume. You know, when the Graun called a woman - objecting to being flashed in the women’s changing area by an intact (convicted sex offender) man claiming to be a woman - a “bigot”. Yeah, that really advanced the cause of trans-identifying males…
The Supreme Court ruling hasn’t changed anything legally - it’s just confirmed that the Equality Act 2010 still means what it meant when it became law. Women should have single-sex facilities where needed for safety and dignity. People with gender reassignment certificates are protected in law too.
You are naive if you think nothing has changed. Women who look a bit masculine, trans or not, who are already being confronted by other women in toilets and changing rooms. The ruling opened the door to bigotry.
Lesbians are women, there were always lesbians and they always were able to go to women's locker rooms, toilets, they were sportswomen taking part in female competitions because they are women.
I’m not naive. The ruling has just confirmed that the law is the law. Women & girls have had years now of losing facilities and being put in with men in unisex facilities, where the danger of harassment, assault, covert photography and video, staring and stalking is high. Our concerns were ignored.
No, you aren't naive, you know exactly what you are doing and what that ruling means. It means your weird little obsession with the lives of strangers now has the full backing of the state, so you can ruin someone's life at will, which is the power you wanted from the start.
Yes yes, we're all aware of the little weasel phrases you hide behind. You don't actually care about women's concerns though, do you, because otherwise you'd care about trans women and GNC cis women. But you do not, because you are committed to enforcing a patriarchal form of femininity.
A big concern in recent years has been clumsy attempts to pacify those who sought to go past Equality Act law eg councils creating unisex sports “changing villages”. With the disastrous consequences of putting men in with women, where they can use smartphones to take clandestine photos & videos.
Yes. There has never been a problem at all with small venues eg cafes have one or two fully self-contained unisex loos with basins. Any person is safe and has dignity & privacy in those. But anywhere larger where alcohol is served, women need single sex facilities. This is so easy to understand.
It's crude to simplify Guardian as one single outlet – my understanding is there's a generational divide between A) younger journos (the ones still there anyway) who overwhelmingly support trans people vs B) the more conservative, older, and frankly more fucking gullible editors who run the shitshow
If trans advocacy organisations had not tried a massive over-reach by trying to impose self ID it would still be relatively small numbers of transsexuals using women's spaces. As it is, the gender identitarians are responsible for what transsexuals perceive as their rights being 'withdrawn'.
Stonewall & the Guardian can take a bow. The relentless attack on women's single sex services provisions & sports means women have had to insist on their legal rights & boundaries being respected. Notice the article is, as usual, all about male transexuals. Women never get a look in with the Graun.

Now it wants to pretend its woke and sad about minorities being oppressed by a fascist regime?

That lesbians are going to be excluded from women’s single sexual spaces because they somehow aren’t womanly enough.
If gender ideology didn’t want us all to conform with sexists stereotypes then it’d be far less of an issue.
Male and female, man and women are biological categories. It is not destiny but sometimes in life and law we need to recognise the differences.
Men and women can do/be whatever they want within the limits of their ability.
Keep trying to justify your thinly disguised homophobia and misogyny though.
Don't act shocked now, when you've got the exclusion you wanted.
Your editors and journalists have been leading us towards this outcome for years along with much of the rest of the UK media.
The Onion’s post about journalism’s duty being to endanger as many trans people as possible was not meant to be an instruction.
Hope the money you made was worth it.
