The combo of Monica CRM for journaling, note-taking, and contacts along with BookStack for proper document writing feels very powerful. I've barely dipped my toes into bookstack, but I've gotten a fair amount of stuff written down in Monica. Meanwhile Ruby has been going absolutely ham in both.

The biggest impact that these are having in my life is that they're cultivating a more intentional way of thinking, where I can focus on making new thoughts instead of getting stuck in loops of tracking down old thoughts.

I started writing in Notion at the beginning of this year, and it did well to introduce me to this concept. But as great as Notion is, it's a wee bit too freeform, and I'm not comfortable with my data being owned by a corporation. Monica and BookStack seem to be the answer to both of those concerns.

I have similar concerns with notion. Also likewise I've found it a bit too freeform. I recently moved my business docs to dokuwiki and it's functional, but the UI is kind of rough for the non technical. (I don't expect my editor to have markdown memorized)

But also didn't like them having our data

Notion's style of "markdown but with extras and also WYSIWYG" is really slick. But at the same time I couldn't find the use case. Documents work with headers and embedd, journals work with automatic timestamps, wikis work with multi-doc structures. Notion, as slick as it is, doesn't have any of that
