Agreed, each medium has their own unique way to tell a story and what works for one may not work for another type of media (see great games having terrible movie adaptations)

yup 100%. story wise ff6 is my favorite for it's overall plot and everything. dialogue wise bg3 or pathfinder are my favorite. i can be whatever i want in those games. good or evil. and the dialogue is superb. i'd say visual novels as well are this but those are books with choices mostly

Yeah. I am still thinking about the emotional impact of these games, whether they are new or old. Books aren’t common with that depth. I rarely get it from TV shows.

My favourite thing is how the side quests encourage you to pay attention to your surroundings. I spent some time waiting for the sun rise so I could see a secret cave and I know I could have made a fire and time skipped to dawn but the serenity while I waited was worth the extra time.

Games are my favorite way to consume a story. Agency creates belonging.

No matter how many times I watch Star Wars, Luke will *never* stop and bang on the Death Star walls just to see what kind of sound the metal makes. That degree of agency and choice is why games are my favorite story medium.

Some of the adaptations are getting there, though! But yeah, they're still very hit or miss. Especially since the movie/show makers constantly think that they can do better and needlessly rewrite estabilished lore.

Though equal, they are not the same in my opinion. I get different things from shows and movies then books, same for video games.

Art is filtered through the media that presents it, and it makes a difference.

That is not to say some of the best stories are not told through video games.

I agree. They are better than a good book. Since video games are more interactive and in some cases you get to drive the storyline. I am starting to play these types of games. Just start the last of us part 1 recently haven't got very far into need to make the time play it more.

Respectfully I disagree. I love both, just turned off Wasteland 3. But reading is passive. Your only interaction is to turn the page. No jump scares in a book. But a book can also render a scene that if you got 2 people to draw, you'd get very different pictures. It's a more personal experience.
