Internet become "many people's many opinions" worst depiction. Bunch of assholes become influencers, and really smart people not even use internet or use it just for information, not to be ilan influencers.
And it will become worse with AI🥲
Sounds like my dad. I remember back in the 80’s he was approached by an internet company for startup capital. He said the internet wasn’t going to go anywhere. 🙄
Just waiting for the full blown propaganda and censorship to hit the internet rfk at the cabinet meeting downplayed the measles outbreak and didn't mention the death actively suppressing the story of the white washing of the military and one of their own networks is censorship by the media
We were early adopters in our house. Cost a bloody fortune to go on the internet in the mid 90s before freeserve and the likes came around. Just imagine a world where you couldn't call someone you disagreed with in another country a halfwit without buying a postage stamp.
It was exactly that year when I founded a tech company and people were saying: do this for a year or two and then you’ll do a proper job. Jokes on them, I guess.
I well remember when the media constantly reported problems with the Internet. Funny really, because now the biggest problem with the Internet is the media.
I'm close. Deleted msnbc, Facebook, LinkedIn amongst many others. There was some withdrawal symptoms but overall it feels great. Other need to follow but still enjoying Bluesky.
In hindsight, the world would be much better off if most users did exactly that.
It proved that just like driving a car, it is very dangerous to society if you do it with no knowledge of outside forces.
Honestly I can see that prediction, the Internet was slow and you couldn't do much with it, if I weren't an expert like many at the time about this technology I would also predict that it would phase out instead of becoming part of the world wide culture
We did give up on it for a bit. No one else was on it, we couldn’t email any of the companies or orgs we used & online grocery shopping was horrendous as you needed to pick everything from lists knowing pack sizes etc. Photos were v limited so no clothes shopping or holidays. No video or SM.
Ah, those good old dial-up modem days, when goung online cost a smLl fortub and you couldn't be on the phone at the same time, nor two computers to same phone line use the internet at the same time. Then came broadband ...
I grew up with it, so to speak. First tabbed browser. I used it as long as was possible till AOL stopped developping and supporting it. I liked altavista and Ask Jeeves. Both got messed up when bought. I really like Netscape. Didn't some bring it back as a clone or something. I'll check.

At The height of its popularity less than a handful of humans had beaten the game
Fast forward to the early days of the internet and you have people on message boards sharing strategies
Now there's tens of thousands who've won it
a week before man's first flight
And it will become worse with AI🥲
So so badly
They had some editorial how the internet was now passed its peak and dying.
What's really funny is that magazine got put out of business by streaming of XXX content and nobody wanted their print magazine anymore
Oh and if course yearly ban and unban in China.
The problem is I still turn up to watch.
Sadly I put it back down and only later considered what a novel treasure this was.
What fool thought that up?
It proved that just like driving a car, it is very dangerous to society if you do it with no knowledge of outside forces.
AOL fucked all of that up.
But yeah, everyone with a brain cell hated AOL or seeing its IP's on one of their servers.
😂😂
