Code did not forbid anything that was left entirely in the head of the reader - if it is only implied in the image - rather than entirely explicit..

in the entire scheme of popular art in USA - explicit sex between consenting adults was usually totally taboo.. so that was replaced by men chopping up women with chain saws or brutalizing them in some other ghastly way.. and in a modified form - that was also acceptable in children's literature..
