Green is better than Out Of Time, yeah I said it.
1. Orange Crush is better than any song on Out Of Time
2. No song on Green is as bad as Radio Song or Shiny Happy People
3. Endgame is R.E.M.'s most forgettable instrumental
4. In fact, the best song on Out Of Time is sung by Mike Mills
5. POPSONG89

I was never the biggest fan of Green (a/k/a the Peter Buck found a mandolin album), but Orange Crush's rhythm section goes hard.
Comments
(Also described by Peter Buck himself as the stupidest song they'd ever written in the liner notes for In Time - BUT NOT THE WORST)
Shiny Happy has Kate Pierson at least, and she makes everything better.
And I won't stand for any further Radio Song slander.
Green is the culmination of one of the greatest three album runs of all time: Life’s Rich Pageant, Document, Green.
Green is definitely a demarcation point in their career/musical direction.
Some great songs in the latter part, but the ALBUMS in the former are great. Even Fables is excellent.
Pretty sure they knew/know that.
Stipe would at times introduce the song as “this is one of the stupidest songs ever written” during the Green Tour.
Hate it on “Losing My Religion.” Absolutely have grown to hate that song, their biggest hit.
I also have thoughts that Automatic doesn't feel like it fits as a full band album/more a Stipe solo, and I feel a lack of backing vocals compared to other albums is where I get that.
And Green>Time should be self-evident.

It's all subjective, and maybe I need to listen through again, but Green never clicked as much for me.
(I always chuckle thinking of the NPR yuppies who lapped up Automatic and then had their tender sensibilities assaulted by Monster, which accounts for its used ubiquity)
BUT
Country Feedback > better than all songs on either album, EXCEPT Pop Song 89
