i left the midwest 20 years ago today and yet watching Tim Walz get increasingly uncomfortable as someone praises him without him being able to interrupt and downplay it somehow is taking me home

I grew up in WI, went to college in Mpls, graduating in 1987... lived in Chicago for a brief time in the early 90s but other than that, have been west coast or east coast. To be really honest, all the memes about Walz today (esp the ones that describe Midwestern values) have made me very homesick.
Is…that where I got that instinct? I only went to school in Michigan for four years, and yet to this day I don’t take compliments well. Is the midwestern humility vibe that strong?
I thought he was trying to hold back tears for a second there when she brought up the GSA thing, I felt very uncomfortable for him as lifelong Midwesterner and absolutely despising every second of anyone ever being nice to me for any reason
Progressives and young people leaving the Great Lakes Blue Wall Swing States is why we are in the current situation.
I strongly encourage folks to move back, especially if you are in the Southern Climate Change Hell Belt, or the Arid Mountain West, (excluding Colorado.)
