Base path would not be an issue. The runner established their base path and is measured from wherever the are when a tag attempt is initiated in a direct line to the target base. They can deviate three feet either side of that path.
Yeah the basepath rule is an oft-misunderstood one. I’ve seen a HS team use it with runners on the corners, sending the guy on 1B basically into shallow RF, hoping the team goes after him and the 3B runner has time to score. Totally legal!
I had to watch it twice to really get what was happening. I mean I got it. I'm not surprised by it. I've been a Mariners fan since 2000. I get it. But like... Wtf. Wtf.
: ) there is not. If you are off the base you are fair game. Anyway he could have gotten back on, he just didn't know the rules like a professional should, so he was in no hurry.
i mean it's a six hour game and for 5h45m of it there is some exciting metabolic activity happening, oxygen being converted to carbon dioxide and so forth
Yeah there was a safety issue and it was exploited by one team. My assumption that baseball is a horrible sport played without honour is validated again
He also didn't just dodge the bat, he took a quick 10 foot jog towards the dugout, as the announcer said, he was basically treating it like a dead ball. Big mental lapse

Is this bad sportsmanship or a great play?
You have to know when the ball is alive or dead. Keep your wits.
