I'm sorry, but, the idea that someone voted without knowing that January 6th happened makes me question my commitment to the concept of universal suffrage.
I understand your point about a large percentage of his voters not actually being “supporters” but it’s certain that probably 99% of those same people had at least heard about some of those things. You think a lot of Americans never heard of January 6th? No shot. And they know who was responsible.
"Most"? I think most of them knew about most of those things.
Some didn't care. Others liked him more because he was a rapist and a bigot. Others disliked those qualities, but voted for him anyway because they were afraid of a hundred million imaginary illegal aliens with machetes.
"Yes, I know that Trump tells racist lies about Black people supposedly eating cats and dogs. But I'm going to vote for him anyway, because 'a staggering 80 percent of our most popular movies are sequels, spinoffs, or remakes, up from 16 percent in 1981.'"
I think the ignorance angle is a big player. Many people I know "don't follow politics", and plenty others have no clue what politicians are doing. I saw a Latino for Trump woman on YouTube who just voted to "make America great" without knowing what that meant. Ignorance is wide spread.
It's true that the ignorance of most Americans is breathtaking. And there exists a small possibility that Kamala Harris might have won the election, just by pulling a Melania and adopting as her slogan "Make America EVEN GREATER."
But I gotta think even that woman knew some of what Trump has done.
