I found the use of lots of stitch markers, going slow and counting and recounting helpful when I made this kasuma mandala

You can work them in as you knit or crochet, but it doesn't always conceal them well. (Thinking of projects using both dark & light colors.) Often I'm simply so engrossed in something else (like, tension of floats) that I just forget to try to knit in loose ends.
