for me it was the comic shops bargain bins
with tiny toons it was the eps where babs got fat
king sized canary was a distant memory till the net happened
pigs is pigs was more recent discover from 20+ years ago
alot the wg eps had an effect on me that I did not fully understand but felt compelled

Back in 2003, if you had a fairly progressive local comic shop you could find em (but not in the basement & boxes type of store desperately trying to keep the comic world in Gen-X-Frank-Miller's-80s forever)

I think the only time I found a furry comic, like say Furrlough, was in MidTown Comics on 40th and 7th Ave in NYC. It was tucked in the back with the indie publishers section and that was around the early 2010s. Rare to find it in stores around here let alone finding a comic shop nearby in NJ.

It was the early 2000s during W’s reign in a state where the learnt knew of his idiocy firsthand from his days as governor.

There was a LGBTQ+ display at this shop that mostly featured indie press like Elfquest, Circles, Pedro and Me but there were the bones DC/Marvel would occasionally toss. <3

Also Diamond publishing was the main controller of all comics in the US. Though interesting with them finally no longer top dog.

I’m unsure which distributors the store utilized at the time but they were very committed to the community and not the dollar so they went out of their way to be civil and empathetic human beings

Capitalism doesn’t care about morals and ethics and we have to reach beyond it to make the world better
