Was wondering if American Primeval would elicit a reactionary press statement by LDS hierarchs. Defending Brigham as a righteous peacemaker is a really weird hill to choose to die on.

It’s weird that the LDS church speaks out. The creatives behind American Primeval are pretty clear that their narrative is a fiction loosely based on historical facts. The COJCOLDS statement only draws more interest & attention to how terrible B.Y. & the Mormons really were.
To be fair, the same people reacting to American Primeval as if it were a historical documentary also approach The Work and the Glory through a similar lens. They just aren't mad because it's hagiographical.
"Peacemaker" Brigham who was party to a later brief civil war in Missouri between Mormon settlers and the state militia, the legacy of which would traumatize Mormons for generations nearly two centuries later.
"Peacemaker" Brigham who joined a secret organization of fifty men which drafted a replacement for the US Constitution in anticipation of when the nation would imminently collapse and the Mormons & "the Lamanites" would wrest control as a lion goes among sheep.
"Peacemaker" Brigham who took the reins of leadership in post-martyrdom Nauvoo and organized and empowered a "police" force known for their violent treatment of "apostates" and "anti-Mormons," including roughing them up and smearing them in "privy dirt."
"Peacemaker" Brigham who illegally invaded Mexico to claim indigenous lands in the Salt Lake Basin for white Mormons and repeatedly massacred the current inhabitants when they resisted.
"Peacemaker" Brigham who preached that there were some sins so severe that not even the blood of Christ could atone for them and that the sinner's only hope for salvation was to have their own blood shed upon the ground in a ritually sacrificial manner.

(*note even the creators of American Primeval back up your claim.)

And if I recall correctly, the series paints them in a good light and as the victim with a little harlequin-styled PG-rated romance sprinkled in.
Instead, probably someone in the chapel parking lot trying to seek their used copies. 😅
