I think part of this, and the reason Vance attended, was the perception that Zelensky got the best of Trump with the initial outline of an agreement. I’m sure that was drilled into Trump and Vance was there to ratchet up the antagonism and make sure Trump didn’t get swayed by (undeserved) flattery.
