One of the strengths of the Final Fantasy series, is that each game is (usually) a self contained entry. You don't need to have played FF 1 through 6 to enjoy 7. For many in the west, this was their first Final Fantasy and it works perfectly as an entry to the series.

The definition of an all timer. Played the original a couple of years ago after loving Remake as my introduction to FF7, and despite some flaws it's still an incredible adventure that holds up to this day.
