I only wish I'd been able to vote for Galadriel as Most Faithfully Adapted Book Character! I love reading her actions and emotions through the lens of Blanchett's Galadriel - it creates such an arc, and says so much about trauma and the canyons that rage and grief carve through our souls.

I'm not saying he is terrible, he is one of my faves. Eärien is flawed, I guess we can agree on that. She was being used by terrible people for nefarious purposes. A great parent should see that no one plays with their children that way.
He chose honour over family.

I would argue that he chose faith that she would find her path on her own, after seeing how his heavy hand drove one son away and nearly another. There’s a shift in him after his daughter gets her guild crest, and I think that’s shown here

I can see where you’re coming from. For me, Elendil’s perceived failure as a father is an artifact of being a single parent in a society where that didn’t happen often. I am never left with the impression that he isn’t choosing their wellbeing or autonomy even when it would be easy for him to do so.
